Editors are very pleased to announce that they will be the first band to headline the new 02 Birmingham Academy on Thursday 10 September 2009.
This will be the bands first non festival UK show this year, and will see Editors back in their adopted home town previewing tracks from their forthcoming album alongside tracks from their previous two albums.

If you saw Editors on their UK tour in 2008, Mobius Band will be instantly familiar.

The bond between the New York based trio and the Birmingham quartet which began on that tour led to a close friendship, and a growing admiration from Editors for their new found friends’ music. Wanting to help this music be heard by the public, Editors are releasing Heaven in the UK, in conjunction with Mobius Band’s US label.
Russell says of the partnership:

“When ‘Heaven’ was released in America, the record blew us away. Our favorite track would change from week to week and we had to have the band come play the album to our fans in Europe. They went down superbly well and sold more CDs on the road than they had in total previously. It made sense for us to help out further and to put the record out in the UK.”

I’ve been wary of blogging, of keeping an online diary, or however you want to put it. But, I think it is a good way of telling you directly what’s going on rather than interpretations in media. So, as a New Year’s resolution I guess we’ll be on the Internet more for you, about our record or maybe just perhaps to tell you other things that are of interest to us.

After the last dates of the REM tour we decamped to different areas of the world and spent time having some normality with family and friends taking a break from the non-stop touring over the last 3 years, it’s been good for our heads and for our music. We’ve already demoed 10 songs and we have another 10 ready to rehearse. We’re all buzzing about the songs that we’ve put together. You may have heard that the record is more electronic and this is true. We’ve been putting the songs together with different sounds from old and new synths and not just relying on guitars, combining both. We’ve been listening to Georgio Moroder, The Idiot by Iggy Pop, Brad Fiedel, Depeche Mode, Remain in Light by Talking Heads and Burial to name a few. The record feels like that hour in the night when the foxes are abundant and the lights are low, driving past the frozen disused warehouses. We’re yet to record so you won’t hear anything for a short while so please be patient.

Finally, The Wrestler movie is rather good, I highly advise watching it if you haven’t already.
