Editors and Chris Urbanowicz part ways

In a decision entirely based upon future musical direction, and with huge sadness, Editors and Chris Urbanowicz have parted ways.
In ten years we’ve gone from playing tiny clubs in Birmingham to having number one records in several countries, selling out massive shows across the globe and headlining festivals as four friends together so this was a massively painful decision for all of us to make.
We wish Chris the best of luck in his future endeavours, and expect you all to do the same. The parting is amicable and however sad things are right now we all hope we’ll continue to be friends for many years to come.
From Editors side Tom , Russ and Ed are continuing to work on album four with Flood and play festival shows at Rock Werchter and Arras in June. They are super excited about working with the core of the band as a three piece and trying to introduce new elements to Editors sound.
Chris is going to take a little time to think about his future direction.

Album Four update from Russell

I realise it’s been a while since you’ve all heard some new music from us (apart from the couple of tracks we’ve been throwing about in recent live shows) so I thought I’d give you a bit of an update of our plans. We have been working hard on new material over the last few months and, all being well, it will be with you next year. We had a bit of a false start with what we were doing and realised that we needed to get back into a room and rehearse hard, reconstructing songs and not thinking ‘we’ll write this in the studio..’. Rehearsing the songs in a room and over a longer period of time isn’t something we’ve done since ‘The Back Room’ and in truth bands these days don’t often get the luxury of working on a record like they worked on their debut. We all felt that we needed to put that time and effort in and it’s been great to get the energy and volume up in a room where we are ready to play and record the songs rather than the other way round. You soon realize when road testing material what is working and what’s not!
So - we are aiming to do some recording early next year. Probably in LA and maybe a session in London. We’ve got seven songs that we feel are in a great place to be recorded for the album and a load of other ideas floating around. Current working titles include Formaldehyde, Sugar and The Weight of Your Love. The songs have a great groove and flow, and we’ve got ideas on how they will be orchestrated in a different way from our first three records. Sorry, but you’ll just have to imagine how they sound at the moment but I can’t wait to get out and play these songs and more to you all soon.

Russell.

Introducing Smith & Burrows

Tom is very excited to announce the collaboration album from Smith & Burrows aka Tom Smith from Editors and Andy Burrows from I Am Arrows/We Are Scientists/Razorlight. Their album, Funny Looking Angels is released on November 28th. Visit http://www.smithandburrows.co.uk for your first taste of the album.

What started as two friends popping into each other’s houses and then home studios, putting down an idea here and a melody there, developed into a set of songs with a Christmas theme, then a theoretical album, then a real album with a release date and a title. ‘Funny Looking Angels’ includes original songs from both Tom and Andy but also features a selection of covers. The eclectic choice includes Yazoo’s ‘Only You’, Black’s ‘Wonderful Life’ and a closing track which features guest vocal from rising star Agnes Obel, in a duet with Tom singing a sumptuous version of ‘The Christmas Song’.

There’ll be plenty more news in the coming weeks, so click the links below to follow Smith & Burrows on their Facebook and Twitter pages.
